Jada Pinkett Smith’s memoir, Worthy, is officially out — and there’s a lot to cover. Smith has always been an open book — pun intended — with her confessions and deep-rooted conversations on Red Table Talk with her mother, Adrienne, and daughter, Willow. From her time in the spotlight to her constant coverage in the media, it’s easy to assume that you know all there is to know about Jada Pinkett Smith. But her newest writings made it very clear that there are many more layers to the actress's life — and it’s bombshell after bombshell.

One of the biggest revelations — and one that you’ve likely already seen in every outlet’s headline since the news broke — is that she and Will Smith have actually been living separately since 2016. Jada told People in an interview, “Relationships, it's an organism — constantly shifting and constantly moving. We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us. A lot happened over the last two years.”
While the duo continues to stick by either other, Jada also brought up *that* Oscar moment. You know, the slap delivered by Will Smith after Chris Rock joked about Jada’s alopecia, a hair loss condition. Apparently, and like the rest of us, the talk-show host thought it was a skit between her husband and Rock at first glance but then quickly realized that it was not a planned joke. Oddly enough, the slap wasn’t even the biggest shock of that night for Jada. It was the fact that Will referred to her as his wife as he screamed at Chris—she hadn't heard him call her in a long time (per the New York Times).
Jada later revealed in the memoir that Rock had asked her out in 2016 after divorce rumors were spread about her and Will. When Rock was made aware that there wasn’t a divorce in the air, Jada exclusively told People, “He apologized, and I apologized to him as well. So I actually thought that we were good, that the hatchet was buried between us.” She continued, “And we hadn't talked since then until 2022 came.”
Those bombshells are only a snippet of what the rest of the memoir entails, with details on Jada’s strenuous childhood in Baltimore, her parents being longtime substance abusers, and spending several years as a crack cocaine dealer. Smith also dove deep into her friendship with Tupac Shakur, whom she claimed she had an “instant connection” with. In an email to the New York Times, Will Smith commented that the book’s candidness woke him up. He wrote, “When you’ve been with someone for more than half of your life, a sort of emotional blindness sets in, and you can all too easily lose your sensitivity to their hidden nuances and subtle beauties.”
Jada Pinkett Smith’s memoir, Worthy, is available for purchase on Amazon in hardcover for $20.50 and digital for $14.99.
